Shane's Texas Pit
It would be all too easy for authentic Texas barbecue lovers to leave Hampton after a day or two, or a week at the beach, without ever realizing that one of New Hampshire’s premier barbecue restaurants, Shane’s Texas Pit, pictured above, is located in downtown Hampton just a short, three-mile drive from the surf (click here to see an interactive map).
Shane’s is well known among local residents for generous portions of its authentic, Texas-style smoked meats including its tender brisket, its smoky pulled pork, its large, fall-off-the-bone ribs, and its pulled chicken and smoked turkey, not to mention a variety of its own house sauces, and not least for its Austin breakfast burrito, served for breakfast on weekends.

Shane’s Texas Pit is located on High Street in the heart of downtown Hampton, an “easy”, three-mile, eight-minute drive from the Casino Ballroom at the center of the beach. See the interactive map at right. Patrons can eat inside, or on the lively outdoor patio, or take their smoked brisket, ribs or pulled pork back to the hotel swimming pool.
And, if you’re visiting Hampton Beach with a group, Shane’s Texas Pit happily caters events, with customizable menus for private parties and gatherings.
The restaurant’s interior is appropriately rustic and casual, of course, with a full open bar and pool table, and in the warmer months, its colorful outdoor patio features live music on Fridays and Saturdays from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
